well, given that the number one bull is Holim Boudwijn with APR 155, ASI 128 ,Prot 23,0.28%,milk 295,fat 61 ,.70%,overall type 0.4,overall mammery system 0.4 ,Livewght-16,survivability 1
and Donor who is also being exported is number 2 with APR 147,ASI122,prot 38,).18%,milk 1056,fat 31,-0.20,overalltype 0.4,0verall mamery 0.6,lwgt 21, survivability 5
.
Talent has the highest type in the top 100 and also the longest survuvability.
personally there isnt a single bull in the top 100 that we will be using.
Talent ,being a storm son , included . In our experiance storm himself left very few mature cows, fantastic looking 2yos ,but not many mature cows. After all look at the 2 big shows in north america , expo and the winter fair, not too many storms showing up in the older classes yet and for his high price and the time his semen has beeen around some should be showing up.

I was all hot to use Talent until I saw his picture on the Semex USA website. I was not the least bit impressed. Although he's nowhere near as ugly as Durham, he's still pretty ugly. Combine that with his horrendous fat percentage, and I'll just keep using Elegant for now.

In Canada 60% GP or better +19conf... Etazon lord Lily 62% GP or better +6 conf ..

Tallent also 3.28 scs .. poorish .. The Aussie proof shows him to be -9% cells. Not wanting to put anyone off but theres a lot of anomilies creeping into this bull. HELP and at 60 a throw most people would expect perfection.

Not the greatest bull to look at either judging by the pic on the semex website.. more oilslick rather than oilpainting.

  Will,

In canada Lord Lily has 209 daughs. milking and classified.51 are E.T.'s out of some really good families,if you compare his daughs.scores with their dams scores you will find he really seems to have done a terrible job on the type front.I'm not trying to defend Talent but the comparison is really not fair at all.

The other 75% Lily daughters must be doing really well in Canada then .. a fair comparison I would say.

The % Gp or better reflects the level of herd the bull was used in, not the quality of the bull.

You can compare second crop GP rates if you want, but even this isn't exact, because certain bulls get used in different sorts of herds. It also doesn't take into account how many daughters are in later lactations.

Surely it is easier to have a high % GP or Better when a large number of daughters are mature, than when the secnd crop have just freshened for the first time.

If you compare Talent (60%) with Hartline Titanic (no 2 lpi)and 54% GP, it is a fair comparison

However, it is not a figure I ever use, either to promote or criticise a bull.

Re: Ladino Park Talent

Upfront I work for an Australian AB company but not the one that sells Talent. Just to clarify the proofs in Aust, new ones just released this week. The APR is a combined index of production, survival(type), workabilities, cell count, daughter fertility and liveweight.

The highest APR bull is Boudewijn at 154 and 0.4 on type, Donor (aussie Mountain son)149 and 0.7, Apollo 142 and 0.1, Princibul (aussie Gibbon son) 138 and 0.1, Ninefold (aussie Winluke son) 134 and 1.2. Other notable bulls are Goldbullion (aussie Ingot son)117 and 0.8, Gibbon 113 and 0.5, Lordpres (aussie Lord son) 111 and 1.2, Knockout 110 and 1.1, Ideal Ags 109 and 1.5, Nuclear (aussie Mascot son) 104 and 1.1, Fatal 102 and 0.8, Tiller (aussie Fatal son) 102 and 1.3.

The most popular bulls in the last 12 months would be Donor, Ninefold, Goldbullion, Lordpres and Tiller. Contarary to Foxleigh's comments on semen use, most commercial farmers are using bulls that have APR ratings above 100 with good type and workabilities. The popular bulls above are priced between $20-$30.

Talent is 100 APR and he is the highest type bull available at 1.9 and 2.1 udders. He suffers under the APR because of his fat rating (0kgs and -.48%) which is by far the lowest fat bull in the top 50. His cell count is -3 (a minus rated cell count is desirable with a minus 3 being near enough to zero not to have any great affect). He was selling in February at $15 ($aust) in May he went up to $60 and is in short supply due to his commitments in Canada.

Talent is being used as a contract mating sire, there will be some sons tested but given his fat rating probably less than a number of other bulls.

Hope thats given some insight into the bull and how he rates in Australia.

Cheers
