Re: Herd Inspection

He means, I think, that the judge for a herds competition comes up with a score for each herd. he uses this to rank the herds and come to his overall listing.

Is there a system for this, or does each judge pretty much make it up for himself ?

I have no idea how these scores are come to, maybe someone with more experience on that end would like to explain. Or maybe they just make it up as they go along, like these semen salesmen do.

Re: Herd Inspection

This is for the N.I. herds comp i presume. I don't know why the max score was 1900 this year but the top score use to be in line with the points scored in the production comp this has now exceeded 2,500 with Alan Irwins herd streets ahead of everyone else the idea was that no one herd either production or inspection related would gain an advantage in the combined competition. In reply to how they get the points i think they put the herds in order and then give them the points.

Re: Herd Inspection

Bob, it was a joke.

All the NI contributors, at least, on here know that i am the Semex rep over here. We also own a few cattle, and test a few bulls ourselves.

That is why I made the comment about semen salesmen making up the numbers. The first reaction we get is that "you're all as bad the politicians" so you learn to joke about it yourself. It's called irony.

Sorry Alan,
Your irony was obviously lost on me. It wasn't just your comment - there have been a few negative references to the semen rep recently. Anyway, it was a spur of the moment thing when I decided to pen my frustrations but having slept on it, I think I will edit my comment back to a blank.
By your clues to N.Ireland and initials AA, I am guessing I know you - are you the one with the powerful upper limbs? If so, hello!

Bob you've spoiled the fun for those of us who didn't get to read your reply!!!!! This forum is for people to air their views and frustrations, i think????? So i think we should all be able to just go ahead and say whatever is on our minds and both you and Alan shouldn't have to hold back just because your semen reps, at some point everyone on this forum is gonna tell you about how the certain bulls you've been marketing are nothing but screws anyway so both sides of the argument are out in the open!!! Don't hold back, full steam ahead lets have it!!!
