Re: PIPPEN AND SOSA
Cows are exciting, but they are a means to an end. Some people cull/sell the low end heavily in order to make the herd appear uniform and only of high quality stock. Every farmer who reads of such herd figures knows that it is promotion bullshit. I am not concerned about how good anyone thinks my herd is based on my worst cow. My worst cow is there because, despite faults, she is still leaving profit behind. If not, she goes.
I have a relative who is capable of convincing anyone he meets that he can do, has done, and knows about everything. The reality is that his greatest skill lies in BIG TALK.

Re: PIPPEN AND SOSA
Charity: If cows are your mission and passion, that is certainly worthwhile, and your business. Maybe you should get out more, but to see other herds, herd bulls, cow families that are less known, to cattle shows and sales, and to visit with breeders you admire, (and some you don't). That other stuff can wait.
Maybe you already do this, but it is interesting to go to USA Holstein's website Animal Search and put in a prefex followed by a certain bull's short name, and look it up. Quite revealing.
Did you ever consider as a sideline, being a consultant for people wishing to flush their good cows, or are they all trying to get bull contracts? (A true waste of good genetics, because only the newest Hot AI Bulls are considered, and then flushed to every high cow, regardless of pedigree.)

Re: PIPPEN AND SOSA
Done all that Big Bird completely pointless(unless Pam Anderson came knocking at my door!!)Nothing drives me more than seeing something that i created. The more work u put in the better the outcome. If u have 10 different interests u can only be as good as the time u put in to each one.If i only have one thing to think about thereticaly i should be a lot better than most people at that interest.I dont know to many people who would let me make mating descions for there cows.

Re: PIPPEN AND SOSA
There must be some people that want advice as to flushing their cows. Look at how many ask for help on this site.

Re: PIPPEN AND SOSA
Charity what about buying some heifers then giving half interest to someone in exchange for housing. I realize this is what you did, but why not do this just to get started up. You seem to know the Holstein breed and the dairy industry and think it would be interesting to see what you could do as a breeder once you got going.

Re: PIPPEN AND SOSA
Charity,
Send me three Embryos, I'll put them in. you pay the $50.00 transfer fee per egg, we run about 77% on frozen. I wont charge you for the time the calf is carried. Every bull born is for me. And the heifers will cost you $1.55 per day through fresh. While there milking there will not be a cost. Then when there Dry it will be $2.00 per day. No interest in the heifers. What do you think? In exchange you do the matings on my flush cows.

Now Charity, if you think that Pamela Anderson is the "Human, True Type Model", I think that you may have just undermined your entire breeding philosophy!!!
Strikes me as the kind of heifer, that will never make a brood cow!!

Wonder what kind of pedigree she has? or maybe she's just a genetic freak

I think she might not pass the scanner at the show. Somehow I think it's not all natural.
