FLUSH SUGGESTIONS

I have two maiden heifers to flush, am thinking about doing a mixed flush on both!! using a combination of high type and high (milk)index bulls but definately don't want low deviations of either fat or protein!!!!

1st heifer is a storm x vg88 2yr leduc x vg89 2yr mandel x vg 88 Robthom Ruby X Ivory Mark.
i would like to see a little more height at front end but otherwise she is correct. Althought i would still like to protect her pins and provide a little cover on front teats while still watching her bone quality.

2nd heifer is a stormatic x vg 88 2nd blackstar fred x ex 91 broker x dellia. She is a typical stormatic, is weak of her loin and just level pins. also needs more width altho is long and clean!!

What are everyones suggestions for both heifers??

I would use Gibson on the Stormatic.I think it is a good balanced mating for type and [sign in to see URL] the Storm i would use Kite for better frame and balance in the pedigree.

Re: FLUSH SUGGESTIONS

Stormatics are very tough to mate these days. One mating that kind of makes sense from the index side is an Aaron son. I am told they are looking very good. There should be a few in November. Just gotta watch the components. I like Charity's idea on Gibson, Allen is also a good choice as he adds some slope to the rump. If you really want to go crazy Linjet looks like a great mating on Stormatic except for a possible pin set problem.

As for the Storm I would look to Dundee if you can get him. He protects your mammary traits, keeps the bone quality, and they walk uphill. [sign in to see URL] US for fat though. Kite also works, but with lower PTA Milk.

Whether its type or index the bottom line is that all must milk.

We have a couple of bulls ideally suited to your requirements. How about Blitz and/or Iron.
Boss Iron offers the lower pin set, the height at the front end, and great teat placement for your Ivory Mark as well as a dream pedigree which includes Starbuck, Mark and Triple Threat from a great cow [sign in to see URL] would also give the width you need in your Dellia heifer.
Blitz would do exactly the same (loin strength, stature, width, cow family) but also with a massive injection of milk.

Re: FLUSH SUGGESTIONS

Thanks for the advice so far, i never thought about gibson on the stormatic- was afraid the cross would lack width! never thought about kite, i will look into it. Don't think Dundee is avaliable in the uk, and don't know where i could get linjet! Sorry but i think i will give the aaron sons a miss fo now(pins and [sign in to see URL]) and blitz has neither fat or protein although i will take a look at iron! I was thinking about gibson, allen, careca or sinatra for the storm and allen, outside, careca or lancelot for the stormatic. How does everyone think these will work????

Re: FLUSH SUGGESTIONS

Allen on a Storm is a good cross except they have the same type of problems witch are height of front end,and also the legs are straight and stand back a little bit.
Gibson would make a good cross on a Storm except the chest width of the two bulls, also Gibson has the same type of problems through the legs as Storm.I would not use the other bulls u mentioned.
Outside is probaly the most complete mating over a Stormatic daughter and should work well on [sign in to see URL] on a Stormaic is a very good [sign in to see URL] things to watch would be height of front end, loin strength, and somatic cell [sign in to see URL] i would not use the other bulls except Iron maybee!.

Re: FLUSH SUGGESTIONS

I was not advocating any of the current Aaron sons, but have heard rumblings of a couple good all arounders coming November/February. Including several from Canyon Breeze. No real solid info, yet.
