What is A2 Milk?

A2 MilkTM is milk from which a natural variant of a protein, beta casein A1 (A1), has been excluded. This is done by selectively milking only those cows that naturally produce milk without A1. In this way, it is believed that the health benefits of drinking milk may be maximised.

Holsteins produce this milk too. But only about 50% holsteins are carriers of these genes.

Interesting. We should always be trying to improve the health image of milk.

It would be a very bad thing, however, to publicise A1 milk as 'unhealthy' and A2 as 'healthier'. Damaging A1 milk like this would be disasterous if A2 milk didn't work in the long term.

the A2 dairy marketers pty ltd has just been fined $15,000 for making misleading health claims about A2 milk.Queensland Health argued that the company's claim that A2 milk was more beneficial to health than regular milk was likely to mislead consumers.
It has been claimed that A2 milk can reduce the risk of heart disease, diabetes, autism aqnd a range of allergies, but independent scientific, medical and industry groups have said there is no strong scientific evidence to back up the claims.

Not much of a fine for a second class product.
