Re: Discussion Thread for Bull of the Year 2014
If this poll was run today would Mogul still win?

Re: Discussion Thread for Bull of the Year 2014
I guess we will find out 2016 is upon us. I would have to vote for Supersire for 2016 though.

Re:
I was thinking Robust over Supersire just because of the # of high TPI sons he has.

Re:
Supersire quite easily. Moguls proof is not that great. Low Pl, Low DPR, High scc...Decent but not the best. Not what our breed needs.

Save it for Friday or Saturday depending on my hangover status, and or football watching schedule.

Re:
Durable gets my vote. Inexpensive, strong, good udders, solid health and conception. got 15 milking, with 15 on deck. Also a red carrier.

Re: Discussion Thread for Bull of the Year 2014
2014's winner, Mogul, who oldest daughters at the time were mid-way through their first lactation, now has some of the following figures in his US proof:
DPR -1.4 (97% reliability)
SCC 3.0 (99% reliability)
PL 3.8 (95% reliability)
So health traits are a bit mixed.
Were Cowtalkers premature in awarding this bull the title whilst so young?
He was not nominated in 2015, despite at least one correspondent claiming he would win every year for the next few years?

Re:
Yet to hear of someone actually milking Mogul daughters that doesn't want more like them, they're very good.
The only criticism I've heard is from people looking at a piece of paper.

Re:
Despite the improvements the Holstein breed still gets over excited at production and type. Give it time and low PL, negative scc and DPR bulls don't usually stay farmer favorites long term. Hello Bolton, planet, toystory, million.

Re:
Mogul might not be the dog's BANANAS health trait wise - we could hardly hope they would hold up with Dorcy as his sire, but he has certainly provided very usable sons for our system, granted they are still only genomic bulls at this point, but Mogul x Freddie looks like a golden cross - Mogul body shape, udders, feet & legs, with Freddie like health traits. I like having a Mogul son in the mix.
Just had a re look at Dorcy's health traits, poor calving ease aside they are better than Mogul's.
