DE-SU BKM McCutchen 1174

Seems as though people already have McCutchen heifers on the ground. Thoughts?

Saw a McCutchen at a sale in Onatrio. All I can say is that it looked like just a heifer. I think it was about 2 months old. Average size, lively personality.

Did Sully Shottle May ever get sold or always been at DE-SU? If she did can anyone remember how much she sold for?

She got at least one bull in Top 10 TPI in August:

She was owned originally by Mike Sullivan, then Mike and Bob Eustice from southern MN, and sold to De-Su a little later in life.

Sully Shottle May sold in the Stars of the Silent Screen on October 3, 2009. She was a fresh two year old and the price was $38 000.

De-Su started getting offspring in August of 2010, so I believe that is the sale where they purchased her.

Visited several farms in Wisconsin + Ohio earlier this month. The standout calves / heifers were the McCutchens, so stylish & correct, some certainly look destined for the show ring.

Also saw some really good milking Bookem, Robust & Observers (def protect for teat length)

Getting more confident about using genomic sires going forward as most of the top new proven ones had been successfully identified by genomics

Re: DE-SU BKM McCutchen 1174

With Genomic heifers I would want to see the mothers or what there scores are a 75 point cow will make a similar cow by using Damion so a great Genomic animal is no good if its mother was a VG86 2yr old.

I think this Genomics is an illusion of the mind set up to get as much money from people as they can the trap u are setting for yourselves is on a grand scale that u will not get away from and many people may suffer because of these actions.

Just about every McCutchen male on CDN has massive inbreeding from between 8.5% - 14% how can this be of any use to the majority of people who will use these bulls in the future.

I would say this is reckless and selfish behaviour to act in this manner to the breed and the majority of people who want to make profitable cows to make a living from it is all about self and profit not progression.

There are many bulls in the market place that offer different blood to lower inbreeding but these bulls do not have high type proofs or Genomic type. These bulls will not be used because they may or will not give a high Genomic outcome so what does that say about Genomics something that looks at the Genetics of the animal.

In my world any Genomic animal that has more than 6-7% inbreeding should have 1 point of type taken away and 100kg of milk anything over 10% should have an extra 200kgs milk taken away.A Genomic bull that is 14% should have 7 points of type taken away and something like a 1000kgs of milk.

If this happened I believe more people would be inclined to use more variety and different sires to lower inbreeding for the breed in the future there is no progression if it is inbred to the population.
