Re: Longmoor signing in!
I have just found that on Holstein UK, very sneaky. Thank you for pointing that out, I would have never known that. What are your longest living families called?

Re: Longmoor signing in!
Take your pick! Prefix was first registered with the BFS back in the mid 1960s when my father bought an old cow off Tom Carrick. He registered 4 or 5 offspring before becoming fed up of the paperwork involved and stopped milk recording and sold the family into his brother in law's Audbrook herd up the road where they remain. Prefix remained unused until I started milk recording again and graded the herd up with HFS in 1989. At that point I had worked my way through all the available paperwork to establish what ancestory details I could but a lot of the time I did not have a date of birth for an animal let alone a sire and dam.
As far as I am aware, apart from the Ullswater cow, the only females to come onto the farm last century were a couple of Shorthorns bought at a relatives dispersal in the late 1930s. The rest of the herd appear to be descended from the Shorthorns milked here by my family members back in the late 1800s.

Re: Longmoor signing in!
On the HUK site, if you enter (say) "Ullswater a" the search will find all the animals registered with that prefix whose name begins with the letter a. By working through the alphabet you can find all the cows carrying that prefix. The classification search will find all the cows recently classified VG or Ex either carrying a particular prefix or inspected in that particular herd.

There was an article about the farm/herd in the June 2009 Dairy Vet supplement with the Dairy Farmer magazine. The article used to be archived on the XL Vets' website but it appears to have now vanished. I can find a reference to the article on the Farmers Guardian/Dairy Farmer site but not the article itself.
There is a tiny bit about us on the last page of this advertising...none of the remarks attributed to me were a direct quotation and the writer has allowed himself a certain degree of journalistic licence!
