Suggestions for Type

I am looking for suggestions on what to use for type. My herd currently has a lot of Goldwyn, Shottle, and Durham in the pedigree trees through both sires and dams. I am trying to avoid further inbreeding as I have found it to affect fertility if overdone.

Majority of the milking herd was bred in large groups for each bull, The majority of the herd is sired by: Amazing, Attic/Atlantic, Damion, Aftershock, Phoenix, assorted Shottle sons, Destry, Dorcy, and Sanchez with a handful of other rogue proven sires in the mix

Breeding age heifers are sired by Dorcy, Chelios, Damion, Aftershock, Amazing, Destry, Sanchez, Clark, Guthrie, and Doorman. I have a few smaller groups of Supersire, Explode, Shamrock, Guthrie, and Dempsey daughters who are approaching breeding age.

My overall goal is to have strong feet and legs, style, well-attached udders and positive milk traits. I am struggling to find available sires to use on the herd without Shottle or Goldwyn who would offer the style I want. I am finding a lot of sires are already crossed to Shottle more than once.

he is a good thought. I could use him on the Goldwyn blooded heifers and cows and Im surprised he hasn't been used more because of his pedigree

I have thought of using Mogul on the Atlee and Pala son bred animals also but I am concerned he will eliminate the style but he is Shottle free

McCutchen is on my list to use but he is out of a Shottle and Oman within first 3 generations so it limits his use in the herd on anything with Shottle or Oman up close.

I continue to use Sanchez on the Goldwyn cows because he is Goldwyn free and I am pleasantly surprised with the udders on them. Not always the stylish cows but very functional but it still leaves me to decide on what to breed the Sanchez daughters to.

Barkley at Accel is an option also. He goes back to Barbie but I am not too concerned about that.

Monument Impression would be an good bull to use. I have quite a few calves and I like them as a group. Nice combination of dairyness and strength. Open, deep rib and wide rumps.

Pine-Tree Alta Oak could be another option. Again I have quite a few calves by him and he can make some nice ones. Not unlike the Impressions. Not quite as consistent as Impression. I milk a few Niagras, Oak's sire, and they are good milk cows with good type. Can be on the dairy side, but type wise should be a nice compliment to Goldwyn and Shottle blood.

Another option would be to try some New-Farm Britt Prince blood (Fantasy Britt Gap x Mtoto). There are 3 or 4 Prince sons ranking high in the Italian index list, click on link below:
Italian Index List

I have a fantastic 10 year old by Fantasy Britt Gap (Rudolph x United Nick x Blackstar x Dellia), sire of Prince. I only have one Prince milking but it is really good. Scored 85 at 3 weeks calved and should have at least one if not 2 more points in it. Milking like crazy. I love it. I wish I had used more Prince. I was going to investigate his sons. Great health traits, strong points are definitely feet and legs, bone quality in particular.

Day 1HO010458 could be an interesting bull for you. He is Super x Bolton X Shottle. He is making them fancy with tremendous udder along with great production and health traits. He is probably the bull I have used the most in the last years

Mascalese 199HO00178 is another one to consider: He is Bolton x Oman, making a lot of show calves right now and early north-american daughters are looking great.Mascalese also has a nice son at semex named Alonzo (Mascalese x Dempsey x Alexander).

Tango 1HO010824 will also be another option : Hill x Colby x FBI , I really like mine they are very dairy heifers with some of the best Feets and legs in the barn. One of mine is a local show prospect. He is a big time production improver as well.

Hearing many good thing typewis about 1HO010788 Jacey, Iota x Massey x Ramos daughters, not impressed by mine , seems like they lack depth and power but are very tall and quite dairy with good feets and legs. he is an amazing outcross for sure to your bloodlines
Hero 7HO09545 Toystory x Durham x Charles
Meridian 200HO02770 Domain x Planet x Shottle
Ladd-P 7HO011163 Destry x LawnBoy x September Storm
Saloon 200HO2792 Iota x Planet x Bolton
they are also some nice type sires with quite a lot of daughters showing last year

If you can find Hero buy every bit of it he has worked great for me i wish i had more. You could really use some Outside blood from what I see or if you can find Pronto use him. Sid is a possibility along with Sabathia he would work in a lot of your pedigrees without sacrificing type, milk and components. A young sire would be 7HO12170 Corey a Jeeves Cameron, never used him, by an Alexander.

Most of the Goldwyn sired cows are out of Outside or other Semex sired cows.

I forgot to mention that I have a large group of Sid breeding age yearlings. Very uniform and exciting group but I have heard that legs can be a concern once milking. They look ok right now but I don't have any Sid left in the tank

I do want to stay away from Alexander. I have (5) 4 year olds by him and they have no milk, bulgy and poorly attached udders and very weak feet. They were fancy heifers who turned into not so great cows.

I have 6 heifers sired by DePrince-Red from Genex who was a Destry x Toystory son. They have not reached breeding age yet but they are very fancy, great rumps and legs but he is a Destry son so maybe O'kaliber would work great on that group.

Piranha-P *RC is an interesting bull at Genex for me and I could use him widely across the herd. +2.46 on type, 500 on milk, very low calving ease, great PL

altaSPRING is another option. Mogul x Gerard Mascol. +1503 milk, +4 PL, +.7 DPR, low CE, +2.4 PTAT

altaMURDOCK. Mogul x Meteor x Zenith. +2.34 type, +2.40 udder, +1100 milk, +6 PL, low SCS,

altaMOPAN. Mogul x Super x Goldwyn.

Airlift would just add another round of Goldwyn to the herd. I think he has great potential as type sire but for a herd that is already full of atlee son daughters and other Goldwyn sons; I think it's safe to say I should avoid Atwood sons.

I like McCutchen but if I use him I'm adding a bull with Shottle, Planet and Oman right up front in the pedigree which could prove to be an issue with mating those resulting daughters

is anyone else finding sire choices to be difficult among the studs lately due to inbreeding?

emoticon ya sorry about that dabble was thinking about that late last night an just clicked on his pedigree an didn't see Goldwyn totally spaced Goldwyn son right at the top! Dah! But yes agree with you if you wanted breed or hold type as a factor in bull selection inbreeding will continue to b a big problem
